Tierra provides a complete range of geotechnical engineering services.  These services include planning, field and laboratory programs, design recommendations, quality control, and instrumentation and performance studies.  We perform geotechnical services for roadways, buildings, airport facilities, transportation systems, landfills, dams, water and wastewater facilities, and other civil and private projects.

Planning

Tierra provides geotechnical support services for the planning phase of a new project or for the expansion of an existing facility.  These services include identifying the best site for a potential project, identifying the best facility location at a specific site, determining potential costs, and estimating construction and grading requirements.  We also provide:

Design

Geotechnical engineering is an important consideration in the design of a new or expanding facility and during remediation activities for a failed or distressed facility.  Tierra's geotechnical design services generally include soil test borings, in situ testing, laboratory testing and engineering analysis.  Specific information and design recommendations may contain:

• Recommendations for the type of foundation, excavation and grading, soil stability, and site preparation

Tierra offers materials testing and inspection services applicable to the governmental, construction and manufacturing industries. Tierra can evaluate and develop recommendations regarding both existing structures and new construction. During construction, monitoring and quality control testing services will verify your project design specifications for soils, concrete and asphalt construction.

Soils

Tierra can provide monitoring and testing services during grading, site utility installation and subgrade preparation. This consists of verification of materials acceptability and compaction by conducting appropriate laboratory and on-site tests. Tierra can:

• Analyze the suitability of site soils for structural fill
• Determine the need for moisture conditioning
• Evaluate the need for drainage, undercutting stabilization or geotextiles for
  remediation of problem surface soils
• Provide an overview of earth grading activities

Concrete

Tierra's concrete services include inspection of concrete delivery and placement procedures. Tierra can:
• Sample fresh concrete on-site for air content, slump, temperature and unit weight
• Make cylinders and beams for strength tests
• Observe concrete placement, and test the hardened end product
• Evaluate problems and recommend repairs, procedures and materials

Asphalt

Asphalt services by Tierra include monitoring and testing of asphalt placement means and methods. Services consist of:
• Asphalt mix designs verifications
• Field inspection to determine and monitor temperature, lift thickness and
  compaction through nuclear density and core samples

 

Tierra operates its own laboratory facilities in order to better meet the needs of its clients. Our laboratories provide specialized testing services associated with geotechnical engineering and construction materials. The geotechnical operations of Tierra are supported by state-of-the-art soil testing capabilities. Our laboratories provide physical testing of soil, concrete, aggregate, asphalt and building materials and are routinely inspected and accredited in these fields with the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials, the Florida Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
